Searching for Banquet
Coming from a not-so-rich background with our not high-paying jobs, we have to set a budget for our wedding. We tried all means to get the best value at the lowest price.
Deciding on wedding lunch greatly relieved us of the amount to be spent on banquet by almost 20%. Initially I was against the idea of a wedding luncheon as it is so not magical! Magical things happened at night... against the dark dark sky with starry starry night. But after attending my friend's lunch, a wedding lunch can also be romantic and heart warming. Furthermore, it relieved our families and friends of the hassle of late night for the dinner and also the ang bao. The lunch will end approximately at 4pm, and they can still go for the later events or simply go home to have a good rest. Ain't that brilliant?
Of course, we have to search for a venue which suits our budget, and also it to be a nice and comfortable place.
We went recce. The 1st area we went to is the great world city vicinity.
We went to Holiday Inn Atrium. I had quite a good impression of the place. It look relatively grand and pleasant. However, we do not have the chance to look into the ballroom of our choice. Ok, KIV Holiday Inn.
Next we moved on to Furama Riverfront. It was the best deal on papers. They got everything at a low low price. However, while walking there, we passed by some Karaoke.. Gosh! How sleazy this place is... is this gonna be my venue??? When we entered the lobby, a not so pleasant scene entered my nose. Gosh! This is definately not The place!
Next, we went to Corpthorne King where we had actually fixed an appointment with the banquet manager for a meet up. She was engaged with a wedding rehearsal, hence we took a look of the venue ourselves. It was a Chinese restaurant, very oriental looking, and definately very restaurant setting... I was wishing more of a ballroom...
Then we moved on to Clarke Quay to look at a restaurant on top of our choice - Peony Jade. But as there was a wedding going on, we were unable to go in to look.
After deciding on a wedding lunch, we then went to M Hotel to have a look after looking at their price list and package. It gave me a very clean and pleasant feeling when i entered the hotel. The staff are well groomed and well mannered too.. 1 staff approached us to see how he can help us. We requested to look at the ballroom and he kindly assisted us on the directions and even brought us to the lift. Thumbs up for the service rendered!
We first went to the 2nd floor- Anson Room. There were preparation going on. It was quite a nice place. Then we went up to the 10th floor - Banquet Suite. Immediately, we fell in love with the place. It was so exclusive... with the function room, big cocktail reception venue and having the entire floor to ourselves! We want this to be The Place!
Fortunately for us, M Hotel participated in the BOWS 2009 where they offered a very good value package as compared to normal times. We signed up with Simon Wong and went away very pleased. We got a good package at a lovely venue.
We will be holding our wedding lunch at M Hotel on 13th Dec 2009. :)

Setting the wedding date
The first thing on the wedding list task is to get a date for the wedding. Most couples will choose the wedding day to be a significant date like the day they got together, or based on fortune telling. The date is very important as you will need to know when to book your venue, and for other matters. Some dates are extremely hot and some of the more popular venues would already have been booked months and even years ahead! Hence, have in your hands a few dates so you can play around on the selection of the venues.
For myself, being a very Chinese girl (with a hint of superstitions), we opt for the fortune telling as we wanted our life to be good. After much research and comparison, we approached Master David Tang for an auspicious date. The charges was very reasonable and it consists of getting the wedding date, Guo Da Li (betherol)date and also An Chuan (Bed Setting) date.
With a date on hand, the couple can start to make the bookings. It is advisable for you to book as EARLY as possible so we can secure our 1st choice.

Congratulations on your wedding!
I have developed a keen interest in wedding planning during the course of preparing for my own wedding. It was pretty exciting to do the research to find out about the wide range of service provided by Singapore wedding providers.. the banquet locations, bridal studios, photographer, videographer, guo da li, etc... there are simply many things to follow up on!
With my personal experience, I hope I can help in creating your DREAM WEDDING.
Love is in the Air!!
